Postseason Underway

The regular season concluded last week and the second season is underway as 16 teams (but really only like 5) vie for the NBA Title.  Here's where everyone stands with 7 months of playoff basketball remaining.

That's not a typo or oversight, Daniel managed to secure the top spot without hitting any One-offs.  Maybe the concept is flawed or maybe Daniel buoyed his performance with nailing both Win Increase & Win Decrease.  Regardless, he sits atop the leaderboard....for now.

Notable 20 pt misses: Jrue Holiday falling 14 assists short of 500 and a One-off Bonus (ouch), Otto Porter needing 4 steals for 120 (another One-off shortfall; damn, you could really be blowing us away), CJ McCollum needing 11 more threes for 200 (holy smokes, ANOTHER One-off miss, how do you sleep at night??), OKC needing 2 more wins for 50, and the Lakers outperforming a 50-loss pace (47....ooooh, so close).

Easily the shortest scorecard.  I maximized my big point-scoring opportunities with nailing five One-offs (that's how its done, Daniel....BOOM SHAKALAKA!!!!) and four Playoff Seeds.  My Golden State vs Charlotte Finals ("Curry returns home to sting Hornets" seemed like a fun headline) looks hilariously laughable.

Notable 20 pt misses: only Portland falling 1 win shy of 50; everything else was a distant tiny dot on the threshold horizon, but did I mention I got four Playoff Seeds, right?  I knew Golden State would suck this year (relatively speaking).

Model of consistency.  Justin rode the big tickets to a solid performance and a dash of One-offs puts him in position to strike when Daniel falters.  Note: Not IF Daniel falters, WHEN Daniel falters.....he'll falter.  Daniel's already won my MLB game....he must be stopped before he becomes too powerful.  Justin also got left out in the cold when Lonzo's knee got all twingy and ruined the Games Started pace he & Ben Simmons were working on.  Those 50 pts will be missed.

Notable 20 pt misses: Kevin Durant needing 8 points (!!) for 1800, and OKC needing 2 more wins for 50

Chalk Walker somehow managed to turn two of the biggest NBA superstars into One-off Bonuses.  Smh.

Notable 20 pt misses: another victim of KD's 1800 points shortfall and OKC's 48 wins; the rest of his 20 pt predictions were terrible.  JK, you did great, Jack.

(I'm not kidding, Jack's predictions were terrible)

Will has a strange scorecard.  Its just as long as Daniel's and has more One-offs but somehow he's 100 pts off the pace.  Its the combination of the Win Increase/Decrease for Daniel and the misfire on Russell Westbrook's Triple Double bonus.  Will also had some missteps on some 20 pt opportunities that cut him off at the ankles from the beginning.  Growing pains, I suppose.

Now let's take a look at what's hanging on the vine and see if anyone can chase down Daniel.

The following is all the Possible Points Remaining (PPR) for each of you.  Please note that I've pre-eliminated the walking wounded (Kawhi Leonard...is he walking?  has anyone actually seen him walk in six months? Or talk?  Does he have one of those Mike Tyson voices that doesn't fit his profile?  Quick, imagine a Kawhi Leonard interview.  What does he sound like?  No one knows!!! because he never speaks!!) and the comically ridiculous (D'Angelo Russell).

I figured my Charlotte misstep would have me dead in the water, but perhaps I underestimated myself.  I have a puncher's chance against Daniel.  When Indiana bounces LeBron in five I'm in the clear on the Playoffs due to Golden State overlap.  Then its a wash with our Harden (MVP) and Gobert (DPOY) points.  Next up will be Warriors (Thompson & Green) vs. Rockets (Harden) for a shot at Finals MVP.  And, finally, it will come down to the All-NBA first & second teams and I can't possibly figure out how all that shakes out.  Ben Simmons getting a spot would likely ice it for me.

Meanwhile, Will lurks in the shadows of last place, his hopes riding on the injury-ravaged Celtics making the Finals, Donovan Mitchell edging out Simmons for ROY, and Al Horford earning Finals MVP honors.  Seems simple enough.

Jack & Justin will pad their stats but wind up falling considerably short of any substantive contention.  Maybe you two can play a heads-up loser's matchup the rest of the way.  Put $10 on who finishes not-last.

Enjoy the Playoffs, gentlemen.  I'll see you again when I see you again.
